Trans, Genderqueer and Intersex Clients

handI support clients to fully inhabit their bodies by providing holistic bodywork grounded in an understanding of a broad gender spectrum. Your body is regarded with respect and dignity in our sessions. I trust your health choices and relationship with your body.

The modalities used to address physical gender transition are explained below. If you are not transitioning or don’t wish to address the effects of transition, your massage will not require special techniques. It is still important to me to be a vocal ally to my trans, genderqueer and intersex clients because massage strokes reach beyond skin and muscle and into the emotions and experiences stored in our bodies. It is essential for you to feel safe in body and spirit when you receive bodywork.

“All human beings carry within themselves an ever-unfolding idea of who they are and what they are capable of achieving. The individual’s sense of self is not determined by chromosomal sex, genitalia, assigned birth sex, or initial gender role.”
— Excerpt from International Bill of Gender Rights

How does Harmonize BodyworkTM address gender transition?

A variety of services are available to nurture clients undergoing physical transition. Deep tissue and Swedish massage release muscle tension associated with binding. Harmonize BodyworkTM supports post-operative clients with gentle massage and energy work to improve circulation, eliminate toxins and heal tissue. After your wounds have healed, I use myofascial release and help you learn simple techniques to break up scar tissue so that your organs and tissues move freely and without pain. I am experienced in helping clients recover after top surgery (mastectomy), facial surgery, breast augmentation, Adam’s apple reduction, genital surgery and hysterectomy. In addition, massage can decrease undesired side effects of hormone therapy, including toxin build-up, headaches, fluid retention and hypertension. I also work with clients throughout pregnancy and postpartum, including trans men who have taken Testosterone in the past.

“I found Kristy through a friend that saw her after she had jaw surgery and surgery to minimize her Adam’s apple. My friend was raving about her, so I booked an appointment when I was ready to have the scar tissue from my top surgery and hysterectomy worked on. I can feel a little wary with new practitioners, but I felt at ease with Kristy right away. She is pretty matter-of-fact about the whole process of transitioning, but she’s very caring about the physical and emotional healing process and she gets really excited with you if you let on how f-ing cool you feel to be in the right body at long last. After two months of working with her, my digestion was smoother, I was stronger and more flexible in my abs and pecs, and the pain and redness around my scars was subsiding. If you like your massage therapists to be part soothing bodyworker, part rock star, call Kristy today!”
